U is for ... UFOs

In the 19 years that I have been cross stitching, I only have 2 UnFinished Objects.  That is because I am a One-at-a-time stitcher (99%) of the time.  I usually only put a project aside for a special occasion (deadline).  In the case of the 2 UFOs, the first one is called Cabin Fever (started in July 2009).  I absolutely love the picture, but it was a Dimensions kit.  I should have swapped out the 16ct beige aida for 28ct evenweave (and didn't).  So everytime I stitched I hated working on it.  Here is a photo of what it should look like finished.

This is how much I got done in the first month (July - August 2009).  I will probably just scrap the project and if I have nothing else to stitch I might restart it someday on 28ct evenweave.

The second UFO is called When I am Old I shall wear Plaid Trousers.  It is the only project where I have missed a deadline (March 24, 2013 - my husband turned 50).  I love the words of the poem, but don't like the inconsistency of the letter style.  Every letter a looks different.  I like things to be symetrical and always the same.  I was recharting as I was stitching, but that was getting confusing, and a lot of frogging, so I stopped.  I need to sit down and rechart it in my cross stitch program.  Then it would be easy to stitch.  Just haven't had time to sit long enough to rechart, that cuts into my stitching time (and that is very limited as it is).  I have 9 years until my husband retires, it might get done by then.

This is how much I have done.

  1. Wow, I am very impressed by the fact that you manage to be a one at a time stitcher. I get distracted far too easily.

The progress on both of those pieces is pretty good. Hopefully you find a way that is satisfactory to you that allows finish them.

  2. I'm amazed that you only have two UFO's! I don't know if I can count all of mine.

  3. We have the same UFO! Cabin Fever. Though I am not exactly a one at a time stitcher. And its only been a few years for me. I broke all the needles provided almost immediately! Which was one of the things that put me off. Then the whole thing with having different amount of threads and colours was just too much effort when I want to relax. After all I stitch to de-stress at the end of the day. You should definitely change count if you are not satisfied! And we can even organise a stitch a long sometime in the future. Have a great weekend.

    1. I understand about the different amount of threads and blending the colours as being a lot of effort it does make it hard to relax. Maybe a stitch-a-long might be fun, but I won't have time for a few years yet. I have all my projects selected for 2014 & 2015. :)

  4. When I started cross stitching I decided not to have more than one project at a time so I would not feel stressed. I have occasionally worked on 2 or 3 projects if one is a travel and one a big project at home on my scroll frame, but I always try to finish one before starting another one. :)

  5. That would bug me too, if all the letters weren't the same. I'm sure you'll get it recharted and stitched before DH retires!
