Handprint - Rose Garden - update #1

I started stitching on this project a week ago today. I managed to stitch the bottom 2 verses of the poem on the first day and finished the top verse on the second day. Then a few days later I stitched the right hand and a few days after that I stitched the left hand.

Handprints - Rose Garden

I started a new project!! This is my 12th time stitching the Handprints poem for a baby.

Fabric is 28ct white evenweave (Charles Craft Monaco).

This project is for my long time friend Lisa's first grandchild. We have known each other for 33 years, and I have known her daughter Joy-Hannah since she was born. So, I wanted to create something special for her new baby girl that is due September 20. The project won't be complete by the time the baby is born, but hopefully by the end of the year.

The nursery theme is Vintage Cottage Flowers (dusty rose, sage green and beige). I looked through all of my cross stitch books and magazines and found 4 really nice flower patterns to use around the handprints and poem. Mom-to-be chose one, so I am ready to stitch.

I had to recreate the patterns in my cross stitch software, so I could add the handprints and the poem to the design layouts. I have been using Pattern Maker by Hobbyware for about 20+ years for personalizing my projects.

This project is from the Cross Stitch and Country Crafts Sept/Oct 89 issue called Rose Garden. Here is a photo showing what the flowers will look like when stitched. I am not using the white lattice border.

I have created a new tab called Handprints. You can see how I personalized the poem for all of my family and friends. At the bottom of that page, you can also see all 4 flower design layouts I created for the Mom-to-be to choose from.

Handprints - Woodland Animals - update #6

Today I started and completed the chipmunk.  This is the last animal.

I need to find a new project to start. Tomorrow I will go through my stash. I’m thinking maybe one of my many Just nan kits, but we’ll see what else I find.

Handprints - Woodland Animals theme - update #1

I started the project on July 6. It took me 4 days to stitch the 2 hands because I kept miscounting. I stitched the whole poem yesterday. Here is the poem and hands completed.

Today I will pull my threads for all the animals.

Handprints poem - 9th time

I’m very excited because my next cross stitch project has a due date, but that can be earlier or later depending on the baby. One of my sons’ close friends is expecting his first child August 14. I have known him since he was in high school, so I wanted to stitch something for him and his wife.

I always stitch the handprints poem, but I also personalize it each time with the baby theme.  I think this is the 9th time I’m stitching this baby pattern. I originally bought and stitched it in 1998 for my oldest son’s kindergarten teacher.

This time the baby theme is Woodland Animals. This is my design concept using animals found in my cross stitch books.

I hand dyed a piece of white 28ct evenweave using coffee, but that was too light, so I re-dyed it again with tea.  This is how it turned out.

I will be stitching the poem in DMC 988 because it is the closest colour to a peridot (August birthstone).

July Goals

July Goals
I need to get back to my Just Nan 3D Limited Edition kits.  I have several that I want to complete this year (and the year is already half over).
I think I will work on the Gingerbread Mice from 2012 & 2013.
If I get them done maybe I will work on my Garden chair.

June Review
Start & Finish the 2nd project.  The baby was born last month.  This is the Jungle Handprints poem (Baby girl). - YES, but it was a day late (finished it today).  Here is a photo of my Happy Dance!!  Sorry the photo is a little crooked.

Right Hand

Last night at the Cross Stitch Club (LNS), I started stitching the baby's name and then the right hand.  The deadline for the project is Saturday, July 12th.  My mom is having a surprise 65th birthday for my dad and the recipients of the baby projects (x2) will be attending.  The purple project is already complete, I just need to buy a frame for it.

IHSW - June update

I only had time to stitch today.  I finished the tiger.  After that I finished the giraffe.  I only have 2 more animals to go... the monkey, and the elephant.  Hopefully I will have time this week to finish stitching  the monkey.
