SYOA - Chapter 4 - drinks - update #9

I am almost finished stitching the whiskey glass.  Just need to add a few more colours floating above the glass and to backstitch around the liquid in the glass.

Nonograms SAL - solved, but not stitched

I enjoyed solving the Nonogram puzzles each day on the Nerdstitching FaceBook Group, but once the TV show was revealed I lost interest in completing the stitched project because it wasn't a show I have heard about.

This is what it would have looked like if I continued stitching the project. This is shown using my cross stitch computer program using the colours I was originally stitching the project with.  I have decided not to finish it.

If she has another SAL in the future, I will just solve the puzzle and then decide if it is worth stitching it.

SYOA - Chapter 4 - drinks - update #8

I restitched the fire whiskey neck of the bottle.  I backstitched around the cherry syrup bottle and glass.  I added some ice to the glass.  I started and completed peppermint toad (stitching and backstitching).

SYOA - Chapter 4 - drinks - update #7

I fixed the sun ray on the whiskey label. Then I did the backstitching. I had to frog the top of the bottle because I only stitched 4 rows instead of 5 of the yellow label on the bottle neck. I have restitched the extra row of yellow and finished the backstitching or the inside of the bottle.  I love all of the detail on the fire whiskey label.

SYOA - Chapter 4 - drinks - update #6

I finished filling in the fire whiskey bottle and started backstitching. I just realized that the sun is missing a yellow stitch on the right side top ray. I noticed when I backstitched it. Still need to do letter Y in whiskey, but want to backstitch around the fire first. I will also do some around the label. Not sure about inside the bottle where the liquid meets the bottle.

SYOA - Chapter 4 - drinks - update #3

Tonight I finished stitching the cherry syrup glass. Now that I see the photo, I realize that I still have to do the ice cubes on top beside the umbrella.  The pattern doesn’t call for backstitching, but I will add some to give it more detail. I will wait to do backstitching later because I am adding a brick/stone wall and window to the background.

SYOA - Chapter 4 - drinks = update #1

I have the shapes of 2 bottles (fire whiskey and cherry syrup) and a glass.  I started filling in the Cherry Syrup bottle.  I love how the bottle looks like a cherry with the stem.

SYOA - Chapter 4

The pattern for Harry Potter SYOA Chapter 4 was released on July 1.  Chapter 4 is all about going to Hogsmeade.  Remember this is a stitch your own adventure, so we had to read our letter from Hogwarts and follow the story to get to where we are going.  There are 3 different locations to choose from for this chapter.  By reading through the letter, I ended up at Honeydukes sweet shop, which is a great place to visit.  I would definitely buy Chocolate Frogs, Bertie Botts Every Flavor Beans and Spearmint Toads.  From there I would go into the Three Broomsticks for a Butterbeer.  I would go to Weasleys Wizard Weezes to take a look around, but probably wouldn’t buy anything from their joke shop.

I decided to combine Honeydukes & Three Broomsticks.  I am adding Fire Whiskey because my husband drinks whiskey.  I drink fruity drinks like coolers, so I’m adding the Cherry Syrup (drink in glass with an umbrella).  I also will be adding Butterbeer because that was what Harry, Ron & Hermione drank in the books/movies.  I have spent the last 2 weeks, reworking the pattern to get more stuff in the space.

I will need to frog the cream/beige along the right side of the parchment before starting to stitch all the drinks and sweets in this chapter.
Close up of the cream/beige I need to frog.

Let The People Choose - July 2020

I'd like to thank Jo at Serendipitous Stitching for hosting this monthly SAL.  This months theme is Most Popular Designer.

I have been stitching now for 25 years, surprisingly in all those years I have only stitched 223 projects as of last week.  Most of these were large projects when I first started stitching back in March 1995.  I am also a One at a time stitcher most of the time.  I might have a large project and take a small one for travelling.  This year I am doing 3 SALs, which is the first for me to have so many on the go.

Total Projects - 223
Dragon Dreams - 30
Just Nan - 25
Country Cottage Needleworks - 13 Santa's Village
Sue Hillis - 6
Other designers - 149

I have stitched more of Dragon Dreams since it was one of my favourite designers when I first started stitching.  Also both of my boys loved the dragon patterns, so I stitched a lot more of them.

These were all free charts years ago.  This is called 2001 Gemstone Dragons.  I stitched all 12 months for myself and about 8 individual ones for my sons and friends of theirs at the time.

The next project is called Dani the Stitching Dragon.  It was a free chart with no floss colours, she just gave us symbols.  It was a contest, everyone chose their own colours to stitch.  This was my entry.  I won an Honourable Mention and some free autographed patterns from the designer.  I eventually bought the published chart with the designers colour choices.
Here are a few more free patterns Coffee is Magic and A Spot of Tea.  These still need to be framed.
Another free pattern called Sleeping Dragon.  One of the few projects I stitched using linen.  I'm not really a fan of linen because it is so uneven.  I don't personally like the look of the thin and thick threads weaved throughout the fabric.  I like my stitches to look the same.

I have shown the other large projects Not Forgotten (Noah's Ark with Mythological creatures) and Blackwork Dragon so I won't show them again.  I stitched all of the free Christmyth ornaments, here are a some of them (phoenix, fairy, griffon, giant, unicorn, dragon, mermaid).

This is the last Dragon Dreams pattern I have stitched (in 2016).  It is a chart from the 2012 Christmas Ornament Magazine.  This pattern is called The Year of the Dragon.  I made it into a flat ornament.

Nonograms - Days 1, 2 & 3

I finically started stitching the nonogram SAL.  There is a new pattern every day from July 1 - 25.  I stitched the border (50 x 50) and then filled in the first 3 days of the pattern.  I decided to grid this project to make it easier to follow each day.  The first word is “Are”.

Nonogram Cross Stitch SAL

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I have joined another cross stitch SAL.  I joined a Facebook group called Nerdstitchalong.  They just started a new SAL from July 1 to July 25.  The project is 50 x 50 stitches framed with full cross stitches.  Inside will be 25 boxes 10 x 10.  Each day she will post a nonogram puzzle to solve and then use this as the cross stitch pattern.  This is a mystery TV show, hopefully it isn’t a new show because I don’t have cable I just watch Netflix.  Most of the pattern will be words and the border, only box 18 and 23 will have a picture in it.  If you are interested in joining, or just to see what it is all about go to  https://www.facebook.com/groups/nerdstitchalong/. She has lots of other stitch alongs during the year.  This is the first time I’m participating because I love solving puzzles and this one intrigued me.  It took me a little while to understand how to solve a nonogram, but now I’m hooked.  You can try a sample at http://www.landofcrispy.com/nonogrammer/nonogram.html

I found a scrap piece of 28ct evenweave.  Mystery evenweave could be cream, antique white or ecru but it will work.  I have chosen 2 bright pinks and 2 different shades of blues.  Not sure which blue to use with the 2 bright pinks.  I’ll see as I go along.  We already have 2 blocks of the pattern to stitch.  I will start stitching tomorrow.

Let me know if you are participating so I can stop by and see your progress photos.
