Colour Swatch Cards for my Pencil Crayons (Coloured Pencils)

My first time trying this technique.  All the artist websites and blogs recommend making coloured swatches (coloured cards) for each coloured pencil, marker, paint, etc that I have in my inventory.  I will only do this with my Prismacolor pencil crayons (also known as coloured pencils).  Some of the colours don’t look exactly like the outside wooden shell colour.  I used my Creative Memories tag maker and a drawing paper.  I write on the colour number and name using that exact pencil crayon and then make a colour sample (light, medium and very dark).  It will take a few days to go through all my pencil crayons.  I have a pack of 60 Prismacolor Scholar and 132 Prismacolor Premier Soft Core plus 11 of the 18 extra colours.  It was cheaper to buy the 132 pack instead of the 150 on Amazon.ca and then I will buy the extra colours separately as I can find them in an art store close to home.  

To make it easier to find a colour, I separated all of my pencil crayons into trays from Michael’s.  I have 9 trays right now (black, white & metallic/brown/green/blue/red & pink/grey/purple/yellow & cream/orange & peach), but I could separate the colours more since some trays have more than one colour in them.

I already made enough tags for each tray.  Here are a few of the colour cards I made this morning.  I finished the black, white & metallic and brown.  Than I started on the greens colours.  Now I can see how each pencil crayon looks when I colour ... light, medium and dark.  Some of the greens look like blues, even thought the name of the colour says green (Peacock Green and Light Green).  Not sure if I will move them to the blue tray or keep them in the green one.  I’ll decide after I finish making all my colour cards. 

Not sure if I will put them all on 1 ring with cardstock colour dividers or each colour on it’s own ring.  I’ll decide when they are all done.

Anyone else colour?  Have you separated your pencil crayons into colour groups?  Have you made any colour cards?

I had to work today, but it was a slow day because most of my customers were closed (schools, Government offices).  I had time to colour my calendar page.

I need to get one of these for my daughter. Did you add the coloring or did it come that way? 

Here is a photo of the box.  I bought it at Costco last fall, but I'm sure you can find them somewhere else online.

There is a different page to colour each day.  As you can see below Saturday & Sunday are on one page. 

I have this calendar on my desk at work, but most days I don't have time to colour ... just too busy.  When I do, I use 5 different fluorescent highlight markers.  The bright colours make me happy.

Secret Garden update 1

No stitching today.  I'm still colouring on the first page in the Secret Garden.  I am using a different green for each type of leaf, but it seems to take forever to colour one type of leaf on the page.

Colouring Calendar Jan 20

I had fun colouring my calendar today during lunch.  I only have 5 highlight markers to use.  No stitching tonight.

Colouring and Varnishing

Today has been a busy day at home.  Dave made pizza dough and sauce, he will cook the pizzas for supper on the egg.  He also made bbq sauce.  I made molasses cookie dough (it is resting in the fridge) and will bake the cookies tonight.  

Dave & I also put the second coat of varnish on the Mini Max Big Green Egg table we built a few weeks ago.  Third (final) coat is tomorrow and then a week of drying in the house before putting it outside to live in the harsh Canadian winter weather.  I'll show a photo when it is completely finished.

Today I spent time colouring in my Harry Potter colouring book.  So far I think I will colour the pages in order in the book.  That might change when I get to a page I'm not crazy about.

I'm a Harry Potter Fan

I was at Costco tonight and couldn't resist buying the new Harry Potter Colouring Book.  I'm a huge fan of the books (read them several times) and it has scenes from all the movies.  Maybe this weekend I will have time to do some crafts.

Calendar for my desk

I found a colouring calendar for my desk at work.  I work as a dispatcher/customer service for a photocopy company.  It is stressful dealing with customers.  I thought this type of calendar would be helpful dealing with difficult customers.  :)

This is my first page I used my highlighter markers.

2016 you will see other hobbies on my blog.  I don't have time to cross stitch every day/night because I have lots of other creative things I like to do.  This will give me more things to blog about.

Adult Colouring Books

I didn't jump on the colouring bandwagon.  I have always loved colouring... As a child, then as a teen with my younger sisters and kids I babysat, later as a mom when my sons were young.  I bought myself 2 new colouring books for Christmas from the artist Johanna Basford.

In the Lost Ocean the artist has drawn items for you to look & find amongst the pages.

I will choose random pages to colour in this book.  I decided to colour the turtle page first because we have a pet turtle.

The Secret Garden, the pages are larger.  I decided that I will colour the pages in order in this book. 

I have started the first page (there are 20 drawings in this book).
